More details on A40 work 3 Aug 2026 Residents should expect disruption as the construction work begins

Residents will be aware that work on the Eynsham Park & Ride has now started on the A40. This work will continue to the next few months and cause disruption in this area for vehicles as well as cyclists and pedestrians.
Eynsham Parish Council has been provided with this update from Oxfordshire County Council’s A40 project team:
  • SSEN diversion works will continue until October 2026. During these works, sections of footway and carriageway will be closed at the southern layby entrance, near Crawley and Minster Industrial Estate, and along the A40 eastbound verge beyond Cuckoo Lane.
  • Gigaclear diversion works will continue until October 2026 at Elm Place Road Crossing and Old Witney Road. These works will be carried out during the day, with some night work. Works will require some sections of footway and carriageway to be closed.
  • BT Openreach diversion works are planned between August 2026 and March 2027. These works will take place along the southern and westbound verge of the A40, where sections of footway will need to close. The work will be carried out during the daytime, except for road crossings, where night work will be required.
  • Virgin Media diversion works are planned between August 2026 and October 2026. The diversion works will take place along the A40 and will be carried out during the daytime. Sections of footway will be closed during the works.
Further diversion works are also planned by SGN and Thames Water. When we receive any details on these works, we will update the website.
Unfortunately, these ongoing works will cause disruption in the area. We’d advise residents to plan their journeys to avoid this section of the A40 where possible.
