Residents may be interested to know that those with heating systems that use heating oil or liquified petroleum gas (LPG) could be eligible for additional financial support to upgrade their boiler.
The Government Boiler Upgrade grants provide £7,500 towards the cost of installing a new heat pump for those with existing fossil fuel boilers. From 21 July, those who are currently using heating oil or LPG to heat their homes may be eligible for a larger grant of £9,000 towards their costs.
The heat pump installer would apply for the grant via Ofgem. Eligibility criteria includes owning a property in England or Wales and currently using a fossil fuel system (including heating oil and LPG) to heat the home. The property can be a second home or primary residence, a business or a house rented out to tenants.
Some heat pumps are able to provide air cooling as well as heating systems. This is only possible with an air-to-air or air-source heat pump. Many homes are being upgraded with air-to-water heat pumps which are only able to provide heat.
