Eynsham Parish Council News

A note about flags 16 Dec 2025 Residents may have spotted flags at the junction close to Eynsham

Flags of a variety of nations have been appearing at many locations across the county. Residents may have seen them close to Eynsham, where flags have been attached to lighting and infrastructure which are in the ownership of Oxfordshire County Council. In this instance, Eynsham Parish Council cannot intervene.

The flags that are on the junction close to Eynsham were placed by a team called Raise the Colours: Oxfordshire. This is a political movement led by Ben Cullen, with close ties to Reform UK. The act of hanging flags is part of a nationwide campaign designed to raise awareness of issues around immigration. The group is well organised and supported.

The Parish Council is aware that some of our residents are unhappy about the flying of these flags and that it has the potential to lead to conflict and division within our community. There are others who welcome the sight of the flags.

We would advise residents to avoid trying to remove the flags for your own safety. They are immediately adjacent to busy roads and placed at heights beyond the reach of standard ladders. They are well-fixed to the lamp posts and, if removed, will likely be replaced soon after.

We have been in discussion with our District and County Councillors over this matter. If residents wish to share any comments and concerns with the County Council, please do so via www.oxfordshire.gov.uk or by emailing our local County Councillor Dan Levy on dan.levy@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
