Do you or anyone you know have a landline? Is it an analogue or a digital landline? Eynsham residents with a landline are advised to check and ensure they have a digital landline in place before the analogue network is switched off in January 2027.
In the past few years, all telephone operators have started moving their customers onto upgraded landline services that use digital technology. It’s known as ‘the digital switchover’ – you may have already been contacted by your service provider and made the switch.
Currently, both analogue and digital networks are operating, but in January the analogue network will be completely switched off. It’s important that anyone still using an analogue landline makes the switch to digital before they lose their connection. This is particularly crucial for those who are vulnerable.
Switching to a digital service is very straightforward, with most phone handsets already suitable for use. There is no additional cost and you are able to retain your existing phone number. These digital landline services are more reliable, efficient and safer, with many providing tools to block scam calls.
BT, as the largest telecommunications company in the UK, has created lots of online resources to help explain the process and answer any questions. They are also hosting monthly online webinars to help customers with the switch.
