Residents who spot issues around Eynsham, such as faulty street lighting or broken pavements, can report them speedily to the right authority via FixMyStreet. It’s a quick and easy way to flag and issue and get a repair.
FixMyStreet is an independent web service, run by a charity, that is designed to allow anyone and everyone to log local issues even if they don’t know the details of council boundaries or responsibilities. Local authorities monitor the reports and act on the ones that fall within their responsibility.
To use the site, residents just need to register and then log issues on an interactive map of our area, with a few details about the problem. The map is constantly updated so residents can see what other issues have been logged, whether the authority is aware and when it is fixed.
Issues that can be logged include graffiti, fly-tipping, broken pavements or faulty street lighting. The site is updated by the relevant authority when they have acknowledged the report, and also once it has been fixed.
There are some issues that shouldn’t be logged on FixMyStreet. For example, anything that presents an immediate danger (such as a gas leak) or is ‘non-physical’ (such as missed bin collections or noise pollution) should be reported directly to the appropriate authority.
Eynsham Parish Council uses the site too. We’re what is known as a ‘SuperUser’, a trained volunteer helping the County Council and its contractors assess the issues and, in some cases, directly authorise certain repairs.
Residents or local groups who are interested in becoming SuperUsers should email volunteercoordinationteam@oxfordshire.gov.uk for more information. It’s a great way to take some control over the process of fixing issues locally, and sorting problems more quickly.
Even if you don’t want to be a SuperUser, we’d encourage all residents to sign up to FixMyStreet, either online or by downloading the app. Visit the website to read more about FixMyStreet and sign up as a user.
