Update on Back Lane repairs 12 Sep 2023 The latest news from Thames Water

Eynsham Parish Council has been in contact with Thames Water about the situation in Back Lane, where the sewer pipe is currently being repaired.

Thames Water has confirmed that there has been a further collapse on the sewer pipe (close to the Back Lane car park), which the contractor will start to repair soon. To allow for continuous use of our wastewater facilities, the over-pumping arrangement and road closure will need to remain in place, so residents will notice little immediate change in the road. Access to Back Lane car park is now via Spareacre Lane.

While the plan remains a replacement of the full sewer pipe, the method chosen will now have to change. The previous approach (a pipe burst) is no longer practical due to the high number of connections private lateral connections into the main sewer pipe. Instead, an alternative approach will be found but full details of this repair are still being planned. Ultimately, the process will result in a completely new sewer pipe under Back Lane.

This work is now under way and residents should have received a letter from Thames Water (you can see a copy below this article). We remain in close communication with Thames Water and will share any updates we can on the website and via our other channels.
