Congestion charge
Residents will likely be aware of the congestion charge that will come into effect from 29 October for those driving into the centre of Oxford.
From Eynsham, the closest congestion charge ‘entry’ point is Hythe Bridge Street, with charges in force from 7am until 7pm each day (including Sunday). Most of the Botley Road is accessible without a charge, including the retail park and shops such as Waitrose.
This is a temporary congestion charge and will remain in place until the re-opening of the Botley Road allows for a planned traffic filter scheme to be trialled.
There are various permits available for those who need to travel into Oxford which may be suitable for some of our residents. These include permits for those who work within the central permit area, frequent hospital users, care workers or community health workers, and people who claim a disability benefit.
Permits are valid for 12 months and can be applied for online. Find out more about the permits and apply via the County Council website: Apply for a temporary congestion charge permit | Oxfordshire County Council
Bus still best option
For three months from 29 October, the County Council is allowing those who park at one of the various Park & Ride locations around the city to use the buses for free. With a valid parking ticket, up to two adults and three children can travel without charge on any bus that stops at the Park & Ride, including Stagecoach, Oxford Bus Company or Thames Travel services.
For residents travelling from Eynsham to Headington, Summertown and the John Radlciffe Hospital (H2), Summertown or Oxford City Centre (S1 and S2), the bus is still a great option. It’s expected that the congestion charge should alleviate some of the delays buses can face due to traffic.
Frequent bus users can save money with a MyBus Oxfordshire ticket, which provides unlimited travel for £6.50 per day or £25 per week on around 150 bus services run by 14 operators across the county. Residents can also earn vouchers or win prizes by recording their bus journeys via the Better Points app.
