It was announced on 21 October that Oxfordshire County Council has secured £126m funding to deliver the planned improvements to the A40, which includes completing Eynsham Park & Ride.
The funding is coming from Homes England and the Department for Transport. It is agreed based on plans that have been adapted due to the rising construction costs and higher levels of inflation since the plans were originally made in 2020. To manage costs the project will now be delivered in stages, with later stages relying on more funding.
Encouragingly, many improvements that will positively impact Eynsham residents are part of the first phase of the project. Phase one will include:
-
Constructing a new junction on the A40 to make the Eynsham Park and Ride usable
-
Establishing a bus lane between the Eynsham Park and Ride and Cassington
-
Creating a walking and cycling path between Eynsham Park and Ride and Cassington (south side of A40) and on the north side of the A40 between the Park and Ride and Lower Road Roundabout
The next step is for the County Council to apply for planning permission for these improvements. We will keep residents informed when we hear more on the progress of this. It has been indicated [BBC News] that work could begin in early 2026 and take two years.
