Planning a trip to the tip? 29 Dec 2025 New booking system at Household Waste Recycling Centre

Oxfordshire County Council is introducing a new booking system for residents using the various Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) around the county.

From 14 January, anyone wishing to use the HWRC must have booked a slot. These can be booked just 30 minutes before (subject to availability), or two weeks in advance.

This change is seeking to address various issues associated with the HWRCs, including traffic on nearby roads and queues to dispose of waste. People are also being encouraged to sort their recycling before arriving on the site to speed up the experience.

Bookings can be made online here Waste and recycling | Oxfordshire County Council or by phone on 01865 519 800. Residents must give their booking number and a proof of address – such as a utility bill – upon arrival at the HWRC.

A booking slot will be 15 minutes for a car and 30 minutes for vans or trailers. Non-residents are still able to use the county’s HWRCs but will have to pay a £15 fee per visit.

Changes are also being made to the van and trailer permit scheme. All those with a permit will need to reapply and the number of visits will be reduced from 12 to 10 per year. All trailers will need a permit and can’t be over 2.4m long. There will also be a ban on horseboxes and horsebox vans.

We’d advise residents to review the website and ensure they are aware of all the changes and how these might impact their use of the HWRC. All the information is available here: Waste and recycling | Oxfordshire County Council

Our closest HWRC is Dix Pit in Stanton Harcourt (Dix Pit household waste recycling centre | Oxfordshire County Council), which will be open 8am-5pm daily over the Christmas period except for a closure on the three bank holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day), with an early closure (3pm) on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
