West Oxfordshire District Council is in the process of updating the electoral register to ensure everyone who is eligible to vote has been registered. This is in advance of the local elections in May 2027.
Every household will be sent a letter by the District Council to check who is eligible to vote at the address. When you receive this letter, check all the details are correct and make any changes you need online (instructions will be included).
This is particularly important if you’re recently moved house, gained new members of the household of voting age or had householders move away. Even if nothing has changed, you will need to confirm the existing details are correct.
Parents or carers of teenagers may need to register them in preparation for becoming eligible to vote at 18, if this will happen by May 2027. The Government has plans to lower the voting age to 16 before the next General Election (which must be held before August 2029) but this legislation has not yet been passed. Once the voting age has been lowered, further details will be provided to households.
Residents with any questions about their electoral status can contact the District Council’s Electoral Services Team at [email protected] or by calling 01993 861410.
