Eynsham Parish Council News

Eynsham citizen scientists wanted 24 Sep 2025 Collect data from your home to help the County Council understand how people use Eynsham streets

Residents may recall that we’ve been supporting Oxfordshire County Council as they develop a new Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for Eynsham (read our original story here).

As part of their evidence-gathering, the development team has included Eynsham in a pilot scheme to see how citizen scientists (local residents) can play a role in data collection to improve understanding of how local roads are used. The team is seeking Eynsham residents to volunteer to collect the data locally. Could you become a citizen scientist for Eynsham?

Certain roads in Eynsham have been chosen for data-collection (see the list below). The team is seeking residents who live on these roads and have a clear view of the pavement and the roadway, such as a large front window. Homes such as this are ideal locations for a Telraam sensor (provided by the team) to collect data.

The Telraam sensor is a small, easy to set-up device that will collect various pieces of data, without using much power. The sensor can monitor the road and record the number of cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles that come past hourly, as well as their speed.

All data collected will be used by the team to understand how people are moving around our neighbourhoods, helping them to shape an efficient LCWIP. More generally, it will also help them understand if using residents can help collect accurate data and therefore support the County Council to make better decisions for local communities.

Some of our Councillors have already signed up to have a sensor in their home. Residents who are interested in taking part should be living on one of the following roads:

  • Witney Road
  • Mill Street
  • Spareacre Lane
  • Back Lane
  • Clover Place

If selected to participate, residents will be sent a small Telraam sensor that simply needs to be plugged into a normal UK socket and positioned at the window, with a view of the street. Are you interested? Find out more about the pilot and what is involved via the website

Eynsham Parish Council will share further updates on this project, and the development of our LCWIP, in due course.
