West Oxfordshire District Council is encouraging residents to check their rubbish bin collection days over the festive period as three bank holidays will impact the normal schedule.
There will be no bin collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, which will cause the ‘usual’ schedule to change to allow the team to catch up. We’d advise residents to check the day of the bin collection in their area via the District Council website (Check your collection day - West Oxfordshire District Council (westoxon.gov.uk)) to ensure bins are put out on the correct days for collection.
There will also be a suspension of garden waste collections from 22 December until 9 January to allow for the extra festive waste and recycling to be handled. From 9 January, bin collection teams will resume garden waste collections and will (until 22 January) take real Christmas trees away that are left outside the property on their scheduled green waste collection day. Residents can have Christmas trees collected even without a green waste bin of their own. Collected trees will be composted.
Residents may have more waste than usual to dispose of and will, during this festive period, be able to leave out items beside their bin that can’t fit inside it for collection. Recycling waste, real Christmas trees and other waste can also be taken to one of Oxfordshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC). These will only be closed for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, opening hours will be amended to 8am until 3pm. The nearest HWRC to Eynsham is Dix Pit in Stanton Harcourt.
