Remembrance Service in Eynsham 2 Nov 2023 This year marks the centenary of the Eynsham branch of The Royal British Legion

Many of our residents are already wearing their poppies and preparing for the annual Remembrance Service, which will take place over the weekend of 11/12 November in Eynsham.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) has planned to hold a 'silence in the square' commemoration connected to the exact moment (11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month) that marked the end of WWI in 1918. This will take place on Saturday 11 November next to the War Memorial and it’s recommended that attendees are in place for 10.45am.

On Sunday 12 November, there will be a Service of Remembrance at St. Leonards Church (10-10.40am) before a parade of Standards from the church to the war memorial. At the war memorial, the RBL will conduct the Act of Remembrance which includes a reading of the Rolls of Honour, the two-minutes silence, singing the National Anthem and the Laying of Wreathes (including one from Eynsham Parish Council). If any local organisations would like to lay a wreath, please contact Ginge Ayres as soon as possible via ginge1@netvigator.com

While always a very key moment in the calendar of the RBL, this Remembrance Service is particularly significant for our local branch as they celebrated their Centenary in October. Eynsham RBL Branch celebrated its Centenary with a party in Eynsham Sports and Social Club on 14 October, which some residents may have attended. They also held their AGM on anniversary date itself (18 October), with presentations by the RBL County President.

Hopefully our residents will be able to join in as the RBL once again marks this important date on the National Calendar.
