Dovehouse Close Come & Play Update 13 Jul 2022 Latest details on the status of the play area

Since announcing the closure of the Dovehouse Close Come & Play area on 22 June, the Council has been working hard to address the health and safety problems that currently make the area unsafe for use.

Ideally, we like to keep the play area open with the unsafe equipment fenced off to allow the site to remain usable during repair work. Unfortunately, previous experience has shown that parts of the fences are often stolen and children continue to use the dangerous equipment. We can’t take this risk, as unsafe equipment can cause serious accidents. We are working hard to re-open the site as soon as possible, especially with the school holidays approaching. This website will be updated to inform you of the re-opening date when we know it.

The current repair work has reminded the Council that much of the equipment in the play area is coming to the end of its useful life. We have commissioned work to source new equipment and designs, alongside our continued efforts to sustain the safety of existing equipment for as long as possible. When we have further information on any changes or additions to the play area, we will open a consultation for the community to comment on. Keep an eye on this website for updates.

In the meantime, please use Eynsham’s other play areas at Old Witney Road and Oxford Road until we are able to reopen Dovehouse Close. Parents and guardians could also venture to the Fishponds with their children for pond dipping, a picnic in the shade and an afternoon discovering nature. Another good option for keeping youngsters busy is the upcoming Eynsham Play & Activity Day at Oxford Road Playing Field on Thursday 28 July, where a wide range of fun – and free – activities will be available.
