If you’re passionate about Eynsham, have a bit of free time in the evenings and want to make a positive difference in our community, we’d urge you to consider becoming a Councillor.
It might sound daunting, a role with a lot of unknowns, but curious residents can explore what it means and how it works via some super resources provided by the Local Government Association (Home | Local Government Association).
The LGA is the ‘national voice of local government’ and has a whole website dedicated to why and how to become a local councillor: Be a Councillor | Local Government Association There are resources to explain how local governance works and some case studies to hear what the process is like.
There is also a series of online events that provide an insight from experts and can answer questions or concerns. The focus is on encouraging underrepresented groups to get involved with local governance and the events are run in partnership with a range of social enterprise groups and charities: Elect Her, Operation Black Vote, the Disability Project Centre, 50:50 Parliament, the Migrant Democracy Project and the Politics Project.
