Eynsham's Lost Railway 17 Jul 2023 The new Museum and Heritage Centre will open for an exhibition from August

Did you know that Eynsham used to have a railway line? From August, our newly-established Eynsham Museum and Heritage Centre will be open for a temporary exhibition about the history of the railway for residents to find out more.

The Museum, which is now housed in the Bartholomew Room following the signing of a lease with the Parish Council earlier this year, will open temporarily from August until October on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays from 11am until 4pm for this special exhibition.

Visitors will be able to see a model of Eynsham Railway and environs as it was in the 1950s before closure, created by Dave Thomas, as well as artefacts from the railway itself, such as the last signalman’s log book and station lamps.

There will be old photographs and lots of information about the railway, its establishment and the reasons for its closure. Visitors can also watch a short video produced by John Richards of the last passenger train in 1962.

While entrance to the museum is free, donations are welcome and will be gratefully received as the group continue raising the funds necessary to allow them to open a permanent exhibition on the history of the area, hopefully later this year. There will also be an opportunity to buy local history books and cards. More details on the group, this exhibition and the Museum can be found on their new website.
