Despite how ‘digital’ our society has become, there remain people who struggle to use digital devices or access the internet, whether through age, vulnerabilities, a lack of confidence or limited experience. To support these people locally and help them to access the benefits of being online, the Parish Council has been working with Age UK to re-establish a basic IT skills class in Eynsham.
We’re thrilled to announce that, thanks to the hard work of Stephen Mott from Age UK, the enthusiasm of local volunteers and the support of Jane Bruder of Eynsham Library, these skills classes are now up and running! Could you or someone you know benefit from one?
The basic IT skills training will be provided as a one-on-one, hour-long session at the library on a Wednesday afternoon, either at 2-3pm or 3-4pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own device and any issue, questions or requests they may have, as the session will be geared around whatever is needed. It can be as simple as ‘I want to email my son’ to ‘how do I use the NHS app?’ ‘how do I access my council tax bill online?’ or ‘I’m scared of online scams – how do I protect my details?’.
The sessions are free and can be booked in three different ways:
We are also always keen to hear from anyone interested in volunteering during this session, enabling us to support more people each week. If you are patient, enthusiastic and have a basic understanding of how to use a computer and the internet – and are free Wednesday afternoon – you are just who we want.
