News from the Governors, Feb 2018 22 Feb 2018 (Bartholomew School) Paul Stammers gives an update on what's happening at Bartholomew.

There’s good news for people worried about construction traffic being a problem when work gets under way in the summer to build the new tower block (see artist’s image), assuming planning permission is given.

The proposals don’t affect the Grade II Listed building at the front of the school, so it’s likely that Bartholomew will get the go-ahead to start the project in June 2018. Work is due to be completed by December 2019.

Members of the public, local councillors, parents and other stakeholders had been invited to view the plans last December and give feedback. Some asked about the impact of contractors’ traffic and parking. The school has since agreed to create a temporary hardstanding next to the Multi Use Games Area so contractors can park on site rather than in nearby roads. In addition, the layby in front of the school will not be used by contractors during school arrival and departure periods, and there will be no deliveries to the school site during those times.

Sixty students took part in an online cybersecurity competition run by GCHQ, resulting in 20 year 8 and 9 pupils representing the school in the next round. Ten schools from across the UK are hoping to compete in the final, in late March.

The PTA raised more than £1,000 from a Music Quiz held in the school hall. There were around 80 attendees at the event in January.
