Gloves and wellies ready! 8 Jan 2024 There’s still time to join the Fishponds Working Party

Eynsham Parish Council’s newly formed Fishponds Working Party will be meeting for their first session on Sunday 28 January from 11am and would welcome any additional volunteers.

The Working Party consists of enthusiastic local people, supported by Councillors, who have generously agreed to give up some time to help the Parish Council tend the Abbey Fishponds. Our much-loved local green space requires periodic upkeep, and the Parish Council simply couldn’t manage the task without local support.

The first session for our Working Party is set for Sunday 28 January, meeting at 11am at the Fishponds car park. We’d advise all those joining us to wear stout boots and gloves, as well as waterproof clothing if the weather looks wet.

Useful equipment to bring along, if available, includes secateurs, forks, spades, loppers, rakes and wheelbarrows. We’d also suggest bringing something to drink, whether a cold drink or something hot in a flask. There will be breaks and we will provide the biscuits!

The main task for this session will be to clear nettles and undergrowth from around the young trees in the two spinneys, as well as trimming the few overhanging twigs and small branches around the site. We will also clear any litter that we find in the area. Depending on the number of volunteers, the session should only last for a few hours.

We’re hugely grateful to those people who have already volunteered to join the Fishponds Working Party and hope many will be able to make it on 28 January. We’d be happy to hear from any more residents who may like to join us; you can email us via and we will put you in touch with the group, or simply turn up on the day and we can register you in person.
