Meet a Councillor: Ann Partlett 27 Feb 2024 How well do you know your local Councillors? Find out more about Ann in our quick Q&A.

When did you become a Councillor?

I joined Eynsham Parish Council in September 2022. A couple of friends who are already on the Council have been trying to persuade me for a while, so I decided to give it a go.

Why did you want to join?

I joined because as I was born in the village; it’s very important to me and I wasn't too happy with some of the changes that were happening. And as my Dad always used to say to me, ‘You can't moan about something if you’re not willing to try to help do something to change it or make it better’.

What do you enjoy about being a Councillor?

There has been a lot going on since I joined, with all the building projects and changes within the council. It can be challenging, but it’s been very interesting – it certainly gives you a different perspective! I now know how hard everyone works to get things sorted for the good of the village, and also how Councillors have to develop a bit of a thicker skin to withstand those who don’t like what we are trying to do!

What has most surprised you since you became a Councillor?

The surprising thing about the Council has been how friendly, supportive and very hard working all the other Councillors are. They are patient too – I ask a lot of questions! I always thought it would be very intimidating to be on the Council, but it isn't at all. I would encourage anyone who is interested to make contact and have a chat with any of the team.

Why do you like about living in Eynsham?

Eynsham is a great village with a friendly community and we need to try and ensure it stays this way, while doing what we can around biodiversity and looking after our green spaces – this is one of the things that is most important to me.

What do you do when you’re not being a Councillor?

I work for Barclays Bank in Oxford, so I know all about the terrible traffic trying to get there! In my spare time I enjoy playing badminton, dancing, walking and generally trying to keep fit or spending time with my family.
