Dear Mr Stukenbroeker

Thank you for contacting Royal Mail. I am very sorry to hear of the upset caused by our postmen dropping rubber bands on or near your property.

We regularly remind our delivery personnel of the need to take care not to drop bands whilst on their rounds - so are always disappointed to hear of any offence caused by bands mistakenly dropped or left behind. I have therefore raised this issue with the manager of your local Delivery Office to address with their colleagues.

Over the last few years we have reduced the weight of each band to minimise the overall amount of material used in their production. Also, the bands we use are made from natural material, are non-toxic and degrade within approximately 12 months depending on prevailing weather conditions. The dye is an organic dye which will not leach out as it is chemically bonded to the rubber. Despite this we recognise that environment issues such as this are best tackled at source and taking rubber bands back to the office for reuse is by far the best solution.

I hope you have found this information useful and that this explanation resolves your enquiry and concludes this matter for you. However if you are unhappy with my response you can contact the Escalated Customer Resolution Team who will re-investigate your complaint. They can be contacted by emailing: Alternatively you can write to: Escalated Customer Resolution Team, Royal Mail, PO Box 466, Plymouth, PL9 7HJ. If you do contact the team please can I ask you to quote your reference number 1-0123456789.

Enquiry Detail: This is a complaint. The postmen (not postwomen) in Eynsham, Oxfordshire continually drop elastic bands on the streets and footways of the village. These elastic bands are reusable but the postmen just throw them on the floor. This is littering. This is a long standing problem but has become worse recently. The postmen should be told to not litter and take the elastic bands back with them.
