Help us re-route a Fishponds footpath 8 Oct 2025 Volunteers welcome for our next working party session

Residents may be aware that Eynsham Parish Council has secured permission to (slightly) re-route a footpath that runs alongside an eroding bank of the Chilbrook at the Abbey Fishponds. (Read more about this in our previous news article.)

We have scheduled this activity to take place on Sunday 19 October and potentially Saturday 1 November (if needed) and would appreciate some additional volunteers to help us. We will be meeting at 11am in the car park at the Fishponds and all are welcome to join us.

The planned work includes clearing some of the undergrowth to create the new route. We may have to remove some small trees, with plans to replant these to the south of the path. We will also use some of the trimmings to create natural barriers that should help protect the bank.

We’d advise volunteers to wear stout boots and gloves, warm clothes and waterproofs (although we have requested a dry day). If you have any bowsaws, pruning saws, secateurs, loppers, spades or forks, please bring these along. Eynsham Parish Council will provide plentiful biscuits, some of which will be chocolate, and we’d recommend bringing water and a flask of something warm.

Anyone intending to come along should email us on epc.comms@eynsham-pc.gov.uk. This will allow us to monitor numbers and confirm the details, or any changes, in the days before.
