It's not just for sports! 16 Dec 2024 Book the Sports Pavilion for your event or class in 2025

Built in the 1970s, our Sports Pavilion sits on the south playing fields and has long been a popular venue for sports teams and local events, playing a key role in Eynsham Carnival among other community activities each year.

Despite its name, the Sports Pavilion is suitable for so much more than sports teams looking to change before a match. The building has capacity for 50 people – with parking for 20 cars – and has chairs and tables available for use. There is also an equipped kitchen and two toilets, one of which is disabled. Importantly, the Pavilion has an entertainments licence – ideal for a party!

Who’s at the Pavilion?

Eynsham Roadrunners have been using the Sports Pavilion as their base and meeting point for over 20 years, with a weekly social run on Wednesday evening followed by tea and cake. Club member Jane Garton, explains: “We get about 30-40 people each week and have people of all abilities; whether you run competitively or just enjoy a gentle jog with friends, you’ll get a warm welcome at Eynsham Roadrunners!”

The group have been meeting at the Pavilion for so long because the location and facilities work so well for them. “Local people can walk and for those coming from further afield there is plenty of parking.” She also notes how “essential” the kitchen facilities are, “and its useful we can serve refreshments through the window on those hot summer evenings when we’d rather cool off outside!” The setting also adds to the appeal, with Botley-based Jane noting how much she’s enjoyed getting to know the countryside around Eynsham and “the green space around the Pavilion is really useful and attractive to us; it's great for hosting events or just for gathering outside in the summer.”

If you’re interested in joining Eynsham Roadrunners you can find out more about their weekly sessions and special events on their website: http://www.eynshamroadrunners.org.uk.

Liz Jones has been teaching cookery classes at the Sports Pavilion for around 14 years, working with adults with learning disabilities.  “I teach three classes a week and the Pavilion is a brilliant space for us: it’s easy for everyone to get to, easily accessible for those in wheelchairs or with mobility issues, with parking right outside.”

With nine students at each session, plus their support worker, Liz does find the kitchen is a little small “but we open the doors and make use of the tables in the hall, plus the outlook onto the sport fields is lovely. It all works really well for us.”
