Be prepared, whatever the weather 5 Jan 2024 Monitor local issues due to winter weather via County Council webpage

Winter weather can often cause issues locally. Local water levels are high due to recent, consistent and heavy rainfall, raising the risk of flooding. The powerful winds have caused disruption and damage, and the colder weather forecast for the coming week could bring snowfall or icy conditions.

Oxfordshire County Council has created a webpage (River levels in Oxfordshire) that shares useful information and links to help residents keep track of weather alerts and warnings, as well as monitor which areas are flooded. Checking conditions before you travel is advised to avoid problems or disruption, and to help keep residents and their businesses safe.

The webpage shares advice on preparing for incidents of flooding and links to useful other resources, such as the webpage that announces school closures and a Scottish and Southern Electricity Network webpage that maps any power outages. There is also a link to the Environment Agency website for monitoring river levels and to check for any flood warnings that may be in place in our area.

The Parish Council would encourage everyone to take care during these winter months and monitor the situation closely. Avoid taking unnecessary risks and check routes or walks before you set out.
