a cycle ride along the river, back to Eynsham through fields & lanes

Stanton Harcourt Circular

Stanton Harcourt Circular (16 May 2021)

This route is probably best avoided for bikes unless it’s dry to help keep the paths in good order. We often do it as a walk but only to SH and back on foot. I’m not sure how long it takes in one shot. We are usually stopping to look at wildlife, paddling in the river or taking a detour. | View the PDF (opens in new window)

Here is the route, there are a couple of gates that need some wriggling to get bikes through or over and the fields are a little bumpy if you are not used to it, but otherwise a leisurely ride. Lots of flowers in the fields and meadows and plenty of birds to see, including a kingfisher if you are lucky. Along the way you can take a little detour to the Devil’s Quoits stone circle, St Michael’s church, and Rushy common nature reserve. There is also a little coffee shop in Stanton Harcourt called the "Harcourt Stores".
