This afternoon I took my dog for a walk through the Fishponds and around the circular walk and was reminded what a picturesque village Eynsham is. I met my husband here over 20 years ago, when we found ourselves sharing the same cottage on Acre End Street. We lived here for a couple of years and we found the village very friendly and welcoming. I now live in Woodstock with the same husband and our three children - two at secondary school and one at primary.
My first career was in local commercial radio originally at Fox FM and finally at Jack FM but with stints in Stratford-upon-Avon and as MD of Mix 96 in Aylesbury. I started to get involved in the world of local government as a Town Centre Manager and then in a public and private sector partnership created to ease Bicester through its recent expansion.
I have been working for the last two years at Woodstock Town Council so I am now fully immersed in the public sector, although I haven’t forgotten that five years ago I had no idea of the difference between a parish, district or county council. It mattered that my bins were emptied, my children educated, my play parks safe to use and the roads passable but I didn’t much care who did it.
However, I have always appreciated the benefits of living in a community that is connected at many levels. That people care so passionately about the place they live and are prepared to give so much of their own time to run clubs, organise events, join committees and get involved gives me great hope for the future of our towns and villages.
The job of a Parish Clerk is delightfully varied but primarily it is about implementing the decisions of the Council made on behalf of the residents. I have found the parish councillors here to be dedicated, professional and enthusiastic about the village. I will be in and around the village much of the time and hope to get to know many of the local people. I am contactable by email or on a dedicated mobile phone.
