The Safari Party by Tim Firth 19 May 2018 19:30 - 22:00 at Village Hall

This is a fast-moving, hilarious comedy by the man who wrote Calendar Girls and who has worked with Willy Russell and Alan Ayckbourn. It features 3 households in Cheshire who hold a safari dinner party, with one course in each house. Young “farming” brothers Daniel and Adam are trying to get their lives on a sound footing after a traumatic past. Lol and Esther are brash and vulgar, but in search of the rural idyll, while their long-suffering, but mischievous daughter Bridget forges her own path. Inga is an antiques dealer, with a creative streak. They don’t get on and when the secrets of the table are revealed, it all kicks off.

The Telegraph called it “a cracking comedy – cunningly constructed, thematically rich and above all blissfully funny”.

The Guardian said it “becomes a brilliant expose of bourgeois self-deceit, brought to a pitch of squirming social embarrassment”.

Director Gareth Hammond says “I am always looking out for engaging play scripts that press all the buttons. The quality of Tim Firth’s writing is outstanding, making it a joy to realise this story on stage. There is humour aplenty, but with darker undercurrents also emerging in the clever plot. We have assembled a very talented cast to bring the colourful  characters to life. We had our most successful show ever with Calendar Girls a few years back, so hope to put on another cracker this time.

As usual, we are partnering with a local group for our Charity Supper Show. This time Eynsham Community Primary School PTA  will assist us in organising the evening in return for a share of the profits. We look forward to seeing you!
