To enforce the reduced speed limits that form part of our 20mph Scheme, we have created a local Community Speedwatch Group. Many other local areas have such a Group. These are part of a nationwide initiative and involve a group of proactive local people collaborating to monitor traffic speeds and identify offenders to the police.
Any speeding drivers will receive a police warning letter, followed by a police visit to their home should they repeat their offence. Encouragingly, national statistics show that 90% of drivers are not seen speeding in the twelve months following their warning letter.
Our Speedwatch Group has undergone training and identified key monitoring locations, which have been approved by the police. Initially, these locations will be monitored for few hours each week.
If you’re interested in volunteering with the Group, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
