Wharf Stream Way

Were you walking Wharf Stream Way before 1992? If so, we need you!

Part of the Wharf Stream Way heritage trail runs across land that has recently been purchased by the sand and gravel supplier Smith & Sons (Bletchington) Ltd.

While most of the trail uses established and protected footpaths and bridleways, the section between A and D on the attached map (from Mead Lane, over the dismantled railway where The Linesmen carving is situated, and finishing at the Wharf Stream footbridge: grid ref at start 441092; at finish 447089) is currently only a permissive path. This means that it is not an official right of way and walkers could be prevented from using it.

In order to protect it for the future, we need to apply for a DMMO (Definitive Map Modification Order).  This means we must provide evidence from walkers that the path has been used prior to 1992 (permission was provided December 2012 and use must be in excess of 20 years).

We are asking as many people as possible to fill in questionnaires called Public Right of Way User Evidence Forms, which ask you about your recollections of walking the route – when you started walking it, how often you walked it, etc., so that we can provide proof that it has been used and enjoyed for a quarter of a century or more.

Please help if you can! Please contact the Clerk if you would like a paper form posted to you. Many thanks indeed.

Forms can be downloaded here.  User Evidence Forms should be posted to Eynsham Parish Council, 91 Brize Norton Road, Minster Lovell, Witney, Oxon. OX29 0SG or scanned and emailed to epc.clerk@eynsham-pc.gov.uk
