It was a chilly morning to start the Random Doubles Finals, but we teed off on time at 10.15 after practice for everyone, on the newly green lawns.
Both Pat/John G and Neil/Jan won 2 - 0 against Irene/Valerie and Ann/Clem respectively. So with no third game (decider) to play in the Semi-finals, we filled the extra time with a very amusing game of Pirates, which David P won handsomely.
After lunch the Final was Pat/John G v Neil/Jan.
Pat/John got off to a poor start and didn't recover in the first game, but stormed ahead in the second, being 4 - 1 up after 5. Somehow Neil/Jan hung on in and reached 5 - 4 (down) after 9, and 6 - 4 after 10. It still looked as though Pat/John would take it to the third game (decider), but Neil/Jan took hoop 11 so were only 6 - 5 down. Neil made one of his trademark clearances, of red out of hoop 12, leaving himself in the hoop!! Now 6 - 6.
So it went to the Golden Hoop (13). Jan ran it (13th) confidently, so winning the second game of the Final, and thus winning 2 - 0, to take the cup with Neil.
They were worthy winners, but I think that we all hoped it would go to 3 games, as it had been such a good match to watch.
The sun came out and the cup was presented to Neil and Jan, who had managed to play consistently well, particularly to come back from 4 - 1 down.
Much enjoyed by everyone, and thanks to those who took part at all the stages of the competition to make it so successful.
For some unknown reason, all photos including Pat are shown in landscape view and I cannot rotate them. Pat is the common denominator!!!!
