HENRY comes to Eynsham 10 Jun 2014 A national children’s charity has relocated its main office to Eynsham.

A national children’s charity has relocated its main office to Eynsham. HENRY - Health Exercise Nutrition for the Really Young - is focussed on giving babies and young children a healthy start in life. It provides training for all kinds of practitioners who work with families of the under-5s such as health visitors, midwives, community nurses, and children’s centre workers.

HENRY also delivers an 8-week programme for parents with young children to help give them a healthy start in life. These courses for families take place all over the country, including in Eynsham where a programme will be running at the Orchard Children’s Centre over the summer term. It covers a wide range of issues including parenting skills, emotional well-being and behaviour change, as well as guidance on food and activity for babies and young children.

HENRY has recently been recognised for its achievements to help get children and the whole family living healthier lifestyles through winning a 2014 GSK IMPACT Award, awarded by the King’s Fund. The HENRY group programme for parents is currently the only evidence-based scheme proven to help families adopt and sustain healthier lifestyles.

The HENRY staff are delighted to have moved to Eynsham. Tom Spencer, Head of Family Support said ‘We’re all really happy to be here. The new offices feel really calm and help us work more effectively. We’ve got more space too. Everyone in Eynsham has been very welcoming - it’s great to feel like we’re a part of the place’.

HENRY is introducing changes to its parent programme - stemming from the introduction of a new parent book - which are being rolled out nationally from September. A testing phase is taking place in a few children’s centres this term with the Orchard Children’s Centre being the first place to experience the revised programme. Karen and Tracey, the local group facilitators, said ‘We are very pleased that HENRY have introduced a parent book and that we are the first group to use it. We can already see a difference it is making as families are able to tailor the book to meet their own needs’

The new book, Healthy Families, is published 2 July and will be available from the HENRY website, along with more information about the organisation and the chance to donate to support its work.
