The village will be sorry to hear of Dr Wright’s death on Saturday 3 May 2014. The funeral took place at St Leonard’s Church on Friday 16 May.
A retired Oxford Hospitals medical consultant, Fred joined Eynsham Parish Council in 1991 - initially to fight the huge gravel extraction threat to the whole area between Eynsham and Cassington from north of the A40 almost to the River Thames. A tribute from the Eynsham Society, published in full in issue 7 of Eynsham News, notes “He would have been particularly gratified to see the turnout, concern and support shown at the recent open meeting in the village hall seeking views on the County Council’s consultation document on Minerals and Waste (especially local gravel extraction) plans up until 2030.”
Fred served as Chairman of Council 1997-8. At the time of his death, in addition to being Hon President of the Eynsham Society, he was Chair of the Parish Council Gravel & Minerals Committtee and a member of the Emergency Planning and Senior Committees; Vice-Chairman of the Village Hall Management Committee; President of Eynsham & Cassington Gravel Committee and President of Witney Conservatives - Eynsham & Lower Windrush branch.
