Why did you decide to join Eynsham Parish Council now?
I’ve just recently retired and I want to use my new-found freedom positively. I feel that being active in the community will give me that positive experience and would also be very rewarding.
What do you hope to achieve by being a Councillor?
I hope I’m able to assist in keeping Eynsham a great place to live and, as a result, achieve a great deal of satisfaction.
How was the process of joining/being co-opted?
It was a very straightforward process, made easy by the friendly and welcoming members of the team.
What has surprised you about being a Councillor – is it what you expected?
I was surprised at how much time and dedication the other Councillers put in; this is despite their roles being totally voluntary and them having their own personal commitments. I expected this responsibility to be a challenge, but I think I’m up to it.
What issues do you care about most?
Although many issues are extremely important, I personally care very deeply about people’s mental health. In the past I have been a Samaritans volunteer so feel it is vitally important that, as a caring community, we look after each other and keep an eye out for the vulnerable members of our village.
How long have you lived in Eynsham?
I’m lucky to have lived in Eynsham now for 5 years.
What do you enjoy about Eynsham life?
That’s simple: the community spirit.
What did you do for work?
I’ve just recently retired after being a Postie [postman] for 25 years.
How do you like to spend your spare time?
I keep active by running and going on long walks in the countryside. I also share an allotment with my partner, Fay. I’m an avid reader and have recently started writing a blog.
Is there anything else you think our residents should know about you?
I love Maltesers and I’m unashamed to say that I wear a fluffy blue onesie indoors when I’m cold! But not for Council meetings….yet!
