Save money on EV cable channel 17 Jul 2025 Residents without driveways could be eligible for subsidised EV cable channels from the County Council.

Oxfordshire County Council is currently offering to subsidise the cost of installing 500 EV cable channels at homes that don’t have a driveway to encourage more people to make the switch to an electric vehicle.

For a limited time only – and on a first-come-first-serve basis – the County Council will be subsidising the cost of these EV cable channels, saving residents a significant amount on the total cost. This offer can be accessed via this website: Electric vehicle (EV) cable channel | Oxfordshire County Council

Only those who are eligible can apply to install an EV cable channel. The eligibility criteria includes owning and living in the property you wish to connect to, not having access to off-road parking but being legally able to park on the road outside the property.

If you’re eligible, you must apply for a license from the County Council for a cable channel that would allow a private EV charging cable to be run across the public highway. There are various steps to be taken, including arranging a site visit, and applicants will need to pay for the planning application and purchase the charger.

The Council has £700,000 from the UK Government to support the subsidised EV cable channels for 500 residents. Once the fund is used up, residents can still apply for a cable channel but would bear the full cost themselves.
