Transport Update: January 2025 2 Jan 2025 Local transport news

Bus fares

On 1 January 2025, the national single bus fare cap rose from £2 to £3. Both Stagecoach and Oxford Bus Company have confirmed they will be offering this fare cap, although most single fares should be less than £3 on some services.

Check the websites of both Oxford Bus Company (Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel) and Stagecoach (Welcome to Stagecoach) before you travel to ensure you’re getting the cheapest and best fare.

H2 change

The H2 bus service between Witney Market Square and the John Radcliffe Hospital, serving Eynsham on route, is currently run by Stagecoach. From 23 February 2025, this service will be run by Pulhams on brand new, single-decker buses. It is likely that services will be increased in due course; we will update residents when we hear more.

Free bus passes

If you’re old enough to collect your state pension, don’t forget to register for your free bus pass too. This can be done via the County Council website: Bus passes | Oxfordshire County Council

Free bus passes are also available for people of all ages living with disabilities. A special companion pass can be applied for, allowing a carer to travel free when alongside the disabled person. Read more about how this works and apply for the pass on this website: Companion bus pass | Oxfordshire County Council

B4044 path progress

The process of designing a plan for the new B4044 cycle and walking path has begun. This multi-use path will connect Botley and Eynsham, providing a safer route for walkers and cyclists and allowing cyclists to commute more easily to Oxford.

Specialist consultants are working on a plan which, when completed, will be open to a public consultation before a planning application is lodged. It is anticipated that the design will be completed in April/May 2025.

Those interested in finding out more about the plans can visit the website of Bike Safe, a local charity focused on making cycling safer and easier for residents of Botley and Eynsham: What is Bike Safe — B4044 Eynsham to Botley Community Path
