Residents may already be aware of or involved with a pioneering local social initiative that is trying to help our local communities in West Oxfordshire reach a zero-carbon energy system.
CAPZero, a Community Action Plan for Zero-Carbon Energy, is one of various projects from the Low Carbon Hub. The project’s mission is to achieve a zero-carbon energy system in the Eynsham Primary Substation (from where we and seven other parishes get our power) before 2050. This will be achieved via long-term stewardship in a way that benefits and motivates residents.
Achieving a zero-carbon energy system within this Primary Substation Area (PSA) can involve simple changes, from residents switching to electric vehicles and heating systems or improving the energy-efficiency of their homes.
It is hoped that this community plan will serve as a benchmark for what can be achieved on a community scale, inspiring the over 60 other PSAs in Oxfordshire – not to mention the hundreds across the country – to follow suit. Reducing energy use on a local level will help us all contribute to the national ambitions for a net-zero future.
