Eynsham Parish Council has been advised by West Oxfordshire District Council that criminals are currently sending emails pretending to be Parish and Town Councils and asking residents for money. These are scam emails and we advise residents to be aware and remain vigilant.
The District Council was contacted by the Counter Fraud and Enforcement Unit with details about scam emails being sent to residents seemingly from their local council. The criminals are using an email address that looks potentially official with a parish.net ending; for example, support@parish.net. Official communications from any town or parish council would come via an email address which ends with gov.uk only. For example, our Communications Officer’s email ends with @eynsham-pc.gov.uk.
Please be aware that these scam emails are being sent and check any communication you receive directly from any local or district council very carefully. Don’t click on any links in the email and don’t transfer money.
If you receive any email from Eynsham Parish Council which seems unusual or suspicious, especially if payment is requested, please contact us immediately via epc.comms@eynsham-pc.gov.uk. Don’t reply to the email sender if you haver any concerns.
If the email is from another local council, we would encourage you to contact them directly, via their official contact email address, to confirm whether the communication is genuine and make them aware of any scams using their name.
