Eynsham Parish Council would like to share some local transport and travel news which may be of interest to our residents.
New combined bus ticket
In mid-July, a new combined bus ticket, MyBus, was launched for Oxfordshire. This single ticket is available as a daily (£6.50) or weekly (£25) pass and covers travel on over 150 services and with 12 operators throughout the county, for a fixed price. Operators taking part include Oxford Bus Company, Stagecoach (excl. Oxford Tube) and First and Last Mile. Find more details on this scheme on the MyBus Oxfordshire webpage.
Train station upgrade delay
Residents will likely have heard the news that the Botley Road closure will continue beyond the October 2024 deadline. Replacement of the railway bridge has been postponed due to the complexity of moving the utilities. It is not yet known when this work will be completed.
The amended routes that buses are currently using will continue as the closure continues. We’d encourage residents to keep an eye on the Network Rail channels for updates.
OTF Paused
The extension to the Botley Road closure has forced Oxfordshire County Council to pause a planned trial, originally scheduled to start in November, of their new Oxford Traffic Filters (OTF) scheme.
This scheme would involve six ‘filters’ (number-plate recognition cameras) being place on roads around Oxford. Drives will need to buy a pass or face a fine to drive through a filter. Residents are able to apply for free passes.
This is part of the Council’s efforts to reduce congestion in the city. The details of the OTF scheme are available on the County Council website: Oxford traffic filters | Oxfordshire County Council.
Eynsham Parish Council had planned to invite a speaker to Eynsham to inform Councillors and residents about how the scheme will work and what we need to do to prepare. We have postponed this event until a new date for the trial has been confirmed.
Reporting antisocial behaviour
There have been reports from residents of loud vehicles in the village. We also occasionally see/hear of small motorbikes being ridden dangerously.
We'd encourage residents to report incidents such as this to Thames Valley Police as this is antisocial behaviour. Find out more about what is classed as antisocial behaviour and how it can be reported on their website: Antisocial behaviour | Thames Valley Police
Thornbury Green residents
The Parish Council has been contacted by MY Mode Choice, a platform created to help people identify more sustainable travel options in their area, about their new webpages for Thornbury Road. These contain information on travel for those living in the new development but may also be useful for all our Eynsham residents.
This was created at the request of the developer, Taylor Wimpey, and Oxfordshire County Council to provide information for residents and has a number of pages on the website dedicated to travel options in the area: Thornbury Road, Eynsham | MY mode choice
Bicycle parking consultation
The County Council is seeking opinions on their plans to amend and add on-street bicycle parking spaces in various locations in Oxford.
