EWCC Season 2021 15 Sep 2021 Our Hardball and Softball Cricket Report

The women’s 2021 cricket season got off to an enthusiastic start following release from the earlier Covid restrictions.  Get togethers in mid-April were welcomed and we looked forward to the start of our first hardball season beginning in May, with softball tournaments starting in mid-June.

The hardball team did well in their first year in the Home Counties Women’s Cricket League - Super 8 Development Group.  Several of the teams they played against had experienced hardball cricketers and although our team won only one game they performed well and gained a lot of useful experience that will be beneficial in the coming seasons.

The softball season (a season of tournaments) started on 13th June at Banbury.  The team won their first three games on their way to the final against Banbury.  However, we were well beaten in this game largely because the opposition fielded three county development players who won them the game.  All I can say is "it's just not cricket".  Despite this setback the team had a great day in superb weather.

The following tournaments were one success after another with teams winning at Horspath and Bampton (on runs scored) with two tournaments cancelled because of the weather.  The last tournament was at home on 11th September and there were five visiting teams.  Such is the success of softball cricket at Eynsham we were able to field two teams plus subs who helped make up numbers for other teams.  The Eynsham women were successful again coming out top winning all their games.

As is usual following our home tournament the BBQ was lit, the bar was opened and fun sporting events followed for families and friends to have fun.

If anyone new to the village would like to get involved with women’s cricket here in Eynsham please make contact via /Eynsham-Womens-Cricket you will be made most welcome.
