Keeping the Lights On 4 Aug 2021 Weathering the pandemic and looking ahead

Eynsham Theatre Club began 2020 with a visit to Bath to see the Theatre Royal’s sparkling West End-bound revival of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit starring Jennifer Saunders. We had booked tickets for the world premiere of Dr Semmelweis - a play about the physician who introduced antisepsis to medicine and pioneered the importance of hand-washing! - starring Mark Rylance at the Bristol Old Vic and our annual visit to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre was to be to see The Comedy of Errors.

Then the covid pandemic struck and like the rest of the entertainment industry we found ourselves in lockdown.

It’s been a challenging 18 months and it’s not over yet. But there are signs for cautious optimism. Oxford Playhouse is even trailering its first non-socially-distanced production. With coach travel and the rest we have to be a bit more cautious. So we are biding our time and, fingers crossed, look forward to offering a full programme in 2022.

In the meantime if you’ve recently moved to Eynsham, have just retired or home-working  has enabled you to be more flexible in how you allocate your time, Maureen Davis will be glad you add your name to our contact list.
