Eynsham Lockdown

The diary of a village during the
SARS-Cov-2 pandemic in 2020

In 2020, the world was turned upside-down by the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic that brought huge tracts of life in all corners of the globe to a temporary standstill. Sadly, many caught the highly infectious virus and died of Covid-19. In the UK alone, by the end of 2020, two and a half million people had been infected, and almost 75,000 lives had been lost.

In a small corner of Oxfordshire, in the village of Eynsham, people came together in mutual support and care. One of numerous projects quickly established was a website – an online diary,  Eynsham Lockdown. Now published as this book, you can read the experiences and reflections of Eynsham people aged 3 to … well, who knows! Their spirit is strong. We hope that their stories may inspire and reassure you.

The pandemic, as we move into 2021, is ongoing. The individual and collective courage of this wonderful village goes on, too.

May its light shine on each and every one of us.

We are almost at the point of printing the Eynsham Lockdown online diary in book form, with thanks to Eynsham Rotary for their generous donation to cover printing costs. The book is 160 pages long, and includes more than 100 diary entries and more than 50 photos. Copies cost £5 and proceeds will be donated to the Eynsham Community Larder.

If you would like to purchase one or more copies of the book, please email one of us at the earliest opportunity, as numbers are limited. Thank you.
