Bartholomew Players present: "Von Ribbentrop’s Watch” by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran
When Gerald Roth, the middle-aged head of a middle class Jewish household in Pinner, Middlesex sends his father’s expensive “Longines” watch for repair, he is shocked to discover its rather chequered history! When he further learns that the value of the watch would solve all their financial problems, the family is presented with a moral dilemma. While this is addressed, some unsavoury truths are uncovered. Remarkably, the play’s central theme is based on Laurence Marks’ own experience of buying the watch in LA, only to discover later who was the original owner!
The Bartholomew Players are delighted and honoured to perform the World Amateur Theatre Premiere of this lively and hugely enjoyable comedy by the authors of “the New Statesman” and “Birds of a Feather”.
Director Gareth Hammond says “I saw this play performed at Oxford Playhouse several years ago and have wanted to put it on ourselves ever since. When I approached the authors about this, I was thrilled to get their agreement. They have even said they will come to one of our performances. It is a very funny play, which everyone will enjoy. I can’t recommend it highly enough and look forward to welcoming our audiences back after the enforced break.”
Due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be hosting a charity supper on the Friday evening, but instead will have a regular show on each of the four nights of the run.
