Dear Members of the Eynsham Community
As part of our unremitting focus on safeguarding, last year we undertook a safeguarding audit in conjunction with the Safeguarding team at Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) to review all areas of our safeguarding policies and processes.
The findings were reassuringly very positive. However, one of OCC’s recommendations was that our school community would benefit from having a more rigorous entry and exit system at the back of the school site. To support this recommendation, we have now introduced a gate at the back of school that will restrict access to the school site.
From this Thursday, 21 March, the back gate will be open Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 08.30 and from 15:00 to 15:30 to enable large numbers of students to enter and leave the site. At all other times, students will need to enter and exit via the front entrance to the school, off Witney Road.
There are two exceptions to this:
All Sixth Formers have been provided with photo ID cards which will be programmed to enable them to come and go via the back gate during the school day. They have been informed that they will need to wear their photo ID at all times when at school;
Year 11s with exeat cards will also be given photo ID cards, programmed to enable them to come and go via the back gate at lunchtimes.
All other students will need to use the front entrance at times when the back gate will be locked.
The back gate will be open during parents’ evenings and other major events on the school site. We would ask, however, that at all other times parents and other visitors to the school enter via the front entrance, off Witney Road, and report to Reception.
Please note that access to the Bartholomew Sports Centre from Back Lane will not be affected by the introduction of the new gate.
Thank you for your support with this latest safeguarding initiative.
