Late in 2013 Sport England confirmed that Eynsham Cricket Club had been awarded a significant grant to be put towards the building of the new cricket pavilion. The club now has all the funding in place, with major awards confirmed from Sport England, West Oxfordshire District Council and Eynsham Parish Council. We are extremely grateful to these organisations and also to the many supporters in Eynsham, and from elsewhere, who have enabled the club to get to the very favourable, fully funded position.
We are now permitted to commence work, subject to various terms and conditions required from the funding organisations (it is not always easy to comply with these). The site has been pegged out and as soon as the drier weather arrives the base will be laid. Given the very wet winter that we are experiencing this may not happen for a few weeks yet (the field is currently under two feet of water and seagulls are the major inhabitants). When the base is down, building of the main structure will commence and plans are being formulated to enable this to happen as soon as the base is ready.
A building committee has been formed, but any offers of help or materials or such like can be directed towards Gary Cook and he will pass it on to the relevant person(s) and ensure a timely response. Also, anyone is more than welcome to direct any questions, again via Gary.
Again it cannot be stressed enough the enormous amount of work that has gone into getting the club to this point. In February 2012 Eynsham Cricket Club had a derelict pavilion destroyed by fire and no funding whatsoever for a new build. Today we are in a position to begin building; a fantastic achievement by all those concerned. Thank you to everyone associated with the club and in Eynsham who have helped us to get this far.
