Station Road - 2

Station Road - 2 (9 Apr 1980)

‘Work is going on to repair the roof of a converted pub which was destroyed by fire.

‘The old Railway Hotel on Acre End Street [and Station Road], Eynsham, pictured here, is now surrounded by scaffolding and temporary covered by corrugated iron as workmen prepare to rebuild the gutted roof.

‘Fire ripped through the roof of the pub last month. It ls being converted into eight courtyard flats. Builder Mr Peter Barrett reckons the blaze has cost him around £30,000 and says it will take two months to put on the new roof.’

Eynsham Primary School Research Group discovered that the Railway Inn was called The Britannia Inn until the mid 1960s - view the PDF (opens in new window).

‘New Bridge Road’ was probably renamed Station Road around the same time.
