‘My lockdown non-work sanity has come from researching and starting to build a model of the old railway station and yard prior closure in 1962. I’ve just about gathered all the photos in books, online and on eBay. There aren’t that many! I wonder though if anyone has,or knows elderly relatives with, photos of the station, yard, entrance etc. Even family snaps where the subject was somebody/ something else but there’s a bit of station/yard/railway in the corner. Please contact me if you have/ are interested.
‘I’ve still much to do but here are a couple of pics of the project so far- you may recognise the cottages and Rosa Villa in today’s Station Road! The model is at 2mm= 1 foot scale, so forgive any blemishes, a photo exaggerates them!
‘With only 8 to 12 trains a day on busy days (4 or 6 each way), the station master had plenty of time to tend the garden (and hang the washing out).’
