Parish Councillor since August 2006; also a District Councillor for Eynsham & Cassington Ward
Chairman of the Parish Council. View report to Annual Parish Meeting 20/04/2010
Parish Councillor since September 2007.
I escaped here from Essex in 2006, we could have chosen to live anywhere in the country but landed in Eynsham. What a great find, we love it!!
In my former life in Essex I was for 20 years a primary school headteacher and then worked for Ofsted inspecting schools. I’ve now retired and enjoy lots of things including gardening, theatre, swimming, walking, travel, and skiing – my late life passion.
Joining the Parish Council has given me the opportunity to offer my time and energy to the village in return for the friendship and fun we’ve had since we arrived. I try to get involved in as much as I can and do my share for the whole community.
Parish Councillor since March 2009.
I have been a resident of Eynsham since birth, except for a short stint in Bicester then Didcot, however the village pulled me back eventually.
I work full time as an Operations Supervisor (paramedic) with the South Central Ambulance Service, based out of Didcot, however I also respond to calls within the village when I'm at home.
I live in Evans Road with my wife George and two children.
When not working, I enjoy gardening, reading, flying (although a little too expensive) and going for walks in the countryside.
I have only recently been co-opted on the council. It has been a great experience and challenge and has given me the opportunity to put something back into the village, which I feel has given me so much.
Parish Councillor since August 2002.
I moved to Eynsham in December 1994 to be near my work in a printing company on Oakfields Industrial Estate. I joined various societies to get to know people and was amazed at how much was going on. I met Paul Hughes and we married in June 2001.
When I retired in 2003 I was co-opted onto the Parish Council. I wanted to see for myself what really happened, so many people had told me how useless the Parish Council was! However I was impressed by how much time and effort the members took to consider the needs of the whole community and have been trying to do my share ever since.
I have lived in Eynsham for 29 years. I taught at Bartholomew School from 1965-1967 and again from 1974-1996. I am a governor at Eynsham Community Primary School, a trustee to the Bartholomew Educational Foundation, a member of St Leonard’s Church and a member of Witney Buttercross Ladies Probus in addition to being a Parish Councillor.
I am also a wife, mother and a grandmother.
Parish Councillor since May 2007; member of the Communications, Finance and Planning Committees until October 2009.
Parish Councillor since August 2006.
I have lived in Eynsham for 22 years (apart from a 3 year stint in Cassington). I am a keen walker and enjoy camping, pubs, the theatre and the countryside. I love being involved in village life, both through the Parish Council and by simply living here.
Vice-Chair of the Parish Council; Parish Councillor since May 1995.
Like most people in Eynsham I’m a blow-in (that great Irish term for a newcomer), having drifted across from Oxford in 1991. Our three children have been through school in the village and my wife’s parents and sister also live here, so I feel now as though I more or less belong.
I’ve been a governor at both schools, a district councillor and, since 1995, a parish councillor. When I look back over those years I’ve noticed a great improvement in the effectiveness of the council – we spend your money much more efficiently and we’re far more successful at bringing in funds from outside.
The council’s powers are hardly enormous, but when making decisions I always try to remember three things: that Eynsham, like all other villages, has changed and will continue to change; that no particular part of the village or interest group should have special priority; and that it’s often those who make the least fuss whose need is the greatest.
Parish Councillor since April 2008.
I moved into Eynsham a few years ago, after 32 years in Headington Quarry. This is a return visit though – I lived here for 7 years in the 1960s and came back because I believe it still enjoys a traditional village atmosphere and facilities.
My husband, Ian, has joined the Morris Dancers and I look forward to getting involved in the community too – having more time since I retired.
In Headington I was a governor of the Middle School as well as treasurer / booking secretary for the Community Centre.
My main hobby is playing bridge at Oxford Bridge Club, where I am chief scorer and a member of the Management Committee.
Parish Councillor since April 2008.
I have enjoyed living in the village since 2001 after 20 years in London. Now I am retired from the planning and engineering environment I can take full advantage of the local walks, pubs and cycling in this pleasant area.
Parish Councillor since 3 November 2009; Public Transport representative on the Traffic Advisory Committee. Dennis moved to Eynsham full-time in 2000. He took early retirement in 2006 after 20 years as a solicitor in London and Oxford.
Parish Councillor since May 2007.
I love living in Eynsham, having been in the village for 24 years, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else! Working in the village is also a bonus.
Being on the Parish Council has given me the opportunity to be more involved in village life. I enjoy cycling, swimming, keep-fit and travel and enjoy spending time in my garden, which keeps me busy.
Retired Oxford Hospitals medical consultant; joined the Parish Council in 1991 – initially to fight the huge gravel extraction threat to the whole area between Eynsham and Cassington from north of the A40 almost to the River Thames. With help this was then achieved. Chairman of Council 1997-8.
Currently Chairman of Village Hall Management Committee, Eynsham Society, Eynsham & Cassington Gravel Committee and Eynsham Conservatives.
