JUNE 2010: Our annual engagement process is now under way.

This is your chance to tell the group and the Neighbourhood Policing Teams about the issues that concern you in your area. The top three concerns will be tackled over the next 12 months.

Please use the online form >>

FEBRUARY 2010: Although parking is currently still a priority for the NAG (all priorities may shortly be reviewed), the enforcement of parking in the area is now a civil matter and is carried out by West Oxfordshire District Council: tel 01993 861000; read more >>

Some enforcement still remains with the police, for example parking on a pedestrian crossing; but apart from parking all other current priorities and duties of the NAG and the neighbourhood police team remain the same.

mobile police station2009: The yearly NAG Engagement was carried out between 30 June and 4 July 2009. The team visited every village in the area with the mobile police station and spent a last afternoon at Eynsham Carnival. Residents were also offered an online form to set out any concerns.

Our survey showed that the three main concerns for the local area are speeding; anti-social behaviour; and vandalism.

Primarily the NAG acts as an interface between the police and the local community. We hold annual surveys of the public to determine what the community sees as priorities for policing in the coming year.

The NAG has a two-stage plan to tackle this: awareness-raising and enforcement. The key to stage one is a Speed Indicator Device (SID). Mobile units continue to help identify places where speeding is a problem. Fixed units sit at the side of the road and flash up your speed as you drive past – then flash a smile if you're within the limit.

Repeat offenders can be targeted through automatic number plate recognition.

The graffiti wall has proved a popular item with our local street artists. The NAG continues to repaint it at intervals, to provide a fresh start for the people that use it.

youth members of the NAG have been asking their peers what facilities they really want. The local youth club is under-used, partly because it is not well advertised, but it needs more volunteers to run it and probably new facilities too.

A drop-in centre/ internet café is a popular idea and NAG members are currently looking to local business for funding and equipment.

West Oxfordshire is still one of the safest areas to live in the UK. However, the point of neighbourhood policing is not only to reduce crime, but to reduce the fear of crime, and we aim to contribute to achieving that on behalf of our community. Look for regular policing updates.
