Carnival Committee News

Everything changes nothing changes 22 Aug 2017 A round up of this Summer's very successful Carnival along with the parade, fancy dress and TOW results

Eynsham Carnival and the Shirt Race went off with a bang on the 1st of July as the sunshine, and the crowds, turned up!

The 71st year for Carnival was a testing one, with the future of the entire event in doubt, as many of the long standing committee members stood down last summer and the parent bodies that owned Carnival needed to pass it on. Luckily the people of Eynsham responded to an appeal for help, and a new committee of volunteers banded together to keep Eynsham Carnival alive!

Small but perfectly formed, the new committee went about organising an event that many have said was a match for any previous carnival, with even a few extras! The parade and shirt race had some fantastic entries and were well supported with a great turnout.

There was no lack of entertainment on the field, with local band The Hooligans in the music tent, Lurcher Racing, the Gloucester Gladiators and dancing amongst the acts in the arena, the popular climbing wall in the family area and of course Rope Wars the 1st annual Tug of War. This new event attracted a lot of interest with the team 'Guy Night' carrying away the trophy and ‘Prosecco made us do it’ winning fancy dress.

Many thanks to the numerous Eynsham businesses, groups, individuals and Friends of the Carnival who have given time, money and provided prizes to make this Carnival a success. Thanks too to both past and present committee members for their fantastic contribution to our community.

If you’d like the perfect excuse to have a shandy down the pub, whilst organising one of the village’s best days out, and gaining valuable event planning experience please get in touch with enquiries@eynshamcarnival.com, we’ll be meeting soon to start planning number 72! As Margaret Key one of the newest committee members said “2018 … what about it?? We're looking forward to it already.”
