Summer news from Eynsham Scout Group 21 Jun 2017 Oxonjam County Camp and outdoor fun

Over May bank holiday weekend, our Beavers Cubs and Scouts all had a great time at a massive County camp in the grounds of Blenheim Palace. 61 of our young people went to the event. Altogether there were about 4,500 and including some travelling from Kenya and Australia.

There were over 100 different activities for them – from climbing to crafts, from tank driving to tracking, from scout radio to science. Also in the evening there were stage shows and films until bedtime.

Beavers (6-8)
This term the beavers are looking forward to gardening, a scavenger hunt, making bug hotels and swimming. We have a new team of assistant leaders and parents running and supporting the beaver colony and we would love someone to come along and join us as a beaver leader. If you like to have fun with kids, and watch them learn and grow please get in touch. It is very rewarding and full free training is available.

Cubs (8-10 ½)
There are 2 cub packs in Eynsham. Our Thursday group are planning their own hike, cooking outdoors and visiting a nature reserve this term. Our Monday group are building dens, following a history trail and model making. Both groups will take part in the Eynsham Carnival on 1st July.

Scouts (10 ½ - 14)
We have 2 scout troops (Wed & Fri). This terms activities include cycling, geocaching, survival skills, forester and naturalist badges – making the most of the good weather outside. The scouts are also planning an outdoor sports night for the cubs. There is a week-long summer camp to look forward to.

Adult roles
You can get involved! We need someone to take notes at our meetings, to help organise our stores and we always welcome leaders and helpers – including young leaders (14-18) and young people on the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.

Come and talk to us at the Eynsham Carnival climbing wall, or contact our Group Scout Leader Trevor Winstone for more details: 01865 880990, or trevorwinst@gmail.com.
